Budgets and anomalies
Hear about overspend while there is still a month left
Set budgets on any slice of spend and see where each will land at month end. Anomaly detection checks every service in every account each day and names the resources behind a spike. Alerts fire once per threshold and resolve once, so nobody learns to ignore them.
Budgets
Budgets on business units, teams, providers or all spend
A budget's scope is any filter the explorer accepts: a business unit, a team, a provider, a service category such as AI and machine learning, or the whole bill. Each one is checked daily against actual spend and the month-end forecast, with thresholds on either.
- Monthly, quarterly or yearly
- Thresholds on actual and forecast
- Burn-down against the budget line
Month-end forecast
A forecast that knows weekends are quieter
The forecast adds the remaining days to month to date, each at the median of that weekday over the last four weeks. Weekend dips stay in, and a one-day spike or a monthly fee does not inflate the rest of the month. Every forecast is kept and scored against the closed month, so its accuracy is measured.
- Weekday medians over 28 days
- A range that narrows as the month goes on
- Accuracy scored each month
Anomalies
Spikes measured against each service's own pattern
Each day's spend on each service in each account is compared with the median of its previous 28 days, using the median absolute deviation so a few past spikes cannot hide the next one. A day is flagged when its score passes 3.5 and the extra spend is material. Services with fewer than 14 days of spend, such as monthly fees, are skipped.
- Robust score threshold 3.5 by default
- Minimum extra spend you set
- The resources that drove the increase

Alert state
One alert per threshold, one when it resolves
| Event | What happens |
|---|---|
| Spend or forecast crosses a threshold | One alert to the budget's owners and channels |
| The next daily check is still over | Nothing new, the alert stays open |
| Spend comes back under | One resolved notice |
| A new period starts | Thresholds reset |
